Vintage Bickerton Folding Bike

The original “bike in a bag” from the 1970’s although this is one of the later models from 1989/1990 called the “Bickerton Classic”.  Upgrades were made over the production run so this one has an improved main folding hinge, a metal headset, and a cross bar on the handlebars.  These make it a little less flexible to ride although it does still flex.  Confidence does grow once you get used to it and there are 3 Sturmey Archer hub gears to get you up most but the steepest of hills.

It gets attention where ever it goes.  The little wheels and the “chopper” style handlebars draw attention and comments such as “Wow, that’s a sick bike” from school children; I think it means they like it😊.

 After purchasing it a few years ago I pimped it doing the following:-  

1) Fitted some original Mk1 retro chrome mudguards removing the plastic ones the later models had.

2) Covered the main body in army green car wrap & inspired by the original production transfers applied “Bickerton” wording and a Union Jack flag.

3) Fitted new Jagwire gear and brake cables in white.

4) Fitted new quick release MKS removeable pedals.

5) Fitted a new retro looking Brev.M saddle (I’ll include the original saddle too).

6) Made and fitted leather hand grips with cork end stops and leather cable retainers.

7) Fitted a chrome bell, new chain and new tyres.

8) Hand made a green canvas carry bag (original blue one included too).  NB: The green one is waxed canvas. There is no shoulder strap included & the zips may need upgrading if used a lot.

9) There is also a stand made out of an old spoke that fits underneath the saddle when not in use and in the pedal when in use.

Also included are some spare chain lengths, spare wrap and misc other bits and bobs including the plastic mudguards.

It is in very good used condition, ready to ride and everything working as it should.

The bike with pedals weighs 10.7kg (according to my scales).
