Tern folding bicycles

These are Tern folding bicycles, a pair still under warranty and less than a year old. They've barely been used, as the owner has since switched to electric bikes due to knee issues. Both bikes come in excellent condition and include travel bags for transport. Tern specialises in versatile, cargo-friendly urban bikes, and these models showcase that practical design approach.

The aluminium frames keep weight down while maintaining stiffness, and the compact 20-inch wheels are typical of folding bike design—they make the folded package genuinely portable and manoeuvrable in traffic, though they do require a bit more cadence to maintain momentum compared to larger wheels. The 7-speed derailleur gears give enough range for moderate hills and varied riding conditions, and the mechanical simplicity means they're straightforward to maintain and adjust. Derailleur systems are lighter and cheaper than hub gears, which aligns with Tern's philosophy of keeping folding bikes practical and accessible.

In daily use, a Tern folding bike like these works well for commuters mixing cycling with public transport, or anyone who needs a bike that doesn't demand much storage space. The fold itself becomes intuitive after a few attempts, and the compact package means these bikes can travel on trains, buses, or fit into a car boot without fuss. They suit urban riding where portability matters as much as the riding itself, and they're equally at home on short commutes or weekend trips where you'd rather not leave a full-size bike locked up outside.
