RALEIGH RSW COMPACT FOLDING BICYCLE Unrestored Original Exceptional condition.
This is an unrestored original Raleigh RSW, a compact folding bicycle from around 1968 that's survived in exceptional condition. The steel frame is finished in the original high-shine grey paint, complete with the period-correct name stickers that most examples have lost over the decades. It's the sort of bike that looks like it's been stored carefully rather than ridden hard, which is rare enough to notice straight away.
The RSW folds down to a manageable size suited to storage in a flat or carrying on public transport, which was the whole point of these compact folding bikes during the late 1960s. The 16-inch wheels keep the folded package relatively tight, and the steel construction feels solid underfoot once unfolded. Gearing comes from a three-speed Sturmey Archer twist grip system, which is simple to use and requires minimal maintenance—typical British engineering from that era. Braking is handled by side-pull caliper brakes, and the bike retains the original rear Raleigh shopper box with its reflector intact, along with the original pedals and rear mudguard. A side stand means you can park it without leaning it against a wall.
What makes this example unusual is how much original equipment has survived. The reflector, pedals, mudguard, and shopper box are often the first things to go missing or get replaced on vintage bikes like this. The paint finish and overall condition suggest this bike has had a quiet life, which matters if you're interested in keeping it as it is or understanding what these bikes were really like when they were new.
Collection only by appointment.
