Kinetics Brompton. 20" wheels, cable disk brakes, belt drive, 11-speed Alfine

£3,270.70 GBP

Highly customised Kinetics Brompton. 20" wheels, Spyre cable disk brakes, belt drive, 11 speed Alfine.

Extremely rare to find for sale. Very few even made for UK buyers.
This is mint condition having only recently been made but sadly is now not needed.

Limited edition flame-red lacquer frame. Not generally available, Brompton did a limited run of this colour. Looks great.
This has been hand built by Ben at Kinetics in Glasgow with the following customisations:

  • 20" hand built wheels with Schwalbe Marathon Plus
  • 11 speed Alfine hub with Jtek shifter.
  • 60 tooth chainring.
  • Belt drive.
  • TRP Spyre cable disk brakes
  • Front and rear battery lights.
  • Extended seat and high bars (good for taller riders)

20" wheels makes this into a completely different bike. The ride is different, the handling is different, no more twitchiness - it rides like a normal bike.
The custom rear rack will take normal bicycle panniers (without the bottom clip), which is useful for touring purposes.
Alfine gears - great range and a million times better than the awful Brompton gears.
Belt drive - no mess, no oil, no maintenance, great for commuting and clothes.
Spyre disk brakes are easy as pie to adjust and maintain and the brakes are very sharp indeed.

The 60th chainring gives two good low gears, perfect if you are somewhere hilly. There's still a good range at the top. I'm not a speed demon cyclist though so I can't assess whether this is a fast machine - probably not though.

Still folds down small enough to carry on public transport and is light enough to carry easily.

The bike has also been registered with the British Bike Register. There is a QR code sticker and the frame has been etched with the registration nnumber - a great theft deterrent just in case you ever do have to lock it up somewhere. This can be transferred to the new owner for free, which will save you a few quid.

If you want one of these from Ben, be prepared to wait 6,7 months or even longer. Or you can buy this one now. Rides great. Test rides available prior to purchase. Collection only - no way I'm posting this thing and haven't got anything to post it in anyway.

Welcome to ask any questions.

The pedals don't come with it - it will come with the standard Brompton folding ones. Also the quad lock phone holder doesn't come with it either (that's mine!)
