A 1992 Brompton L3 (Lightweight, 3 Speed) Frame number 7163 – an upgraded, very clean and useable early SWB Mk2 which is completely rust free, it has completely stripped, rebuilt and had a small fortune spent on it!
The bike is mainly in its original specification (and on first glance looks completely standard) but benefits from many later upgrades which include:
• Brooks B17 narrow saddle
• Later folding pedal and aluminium fixed pedal
• Later Brompton frame clip (stops the bike folding itself when picked up)
• New suspension block
• Later NOS brake levers with cable adjustment
• Later “Rabbits Ears” 3 speed shifter
• Later genuine Brompton foam handlebar grips
• Schwalbe Marathon tyres
• Brand new replacement complete rear triangle and pivot pin
• Replacement mudguards
• Genuine Brompton front luggage block
• New inner and outer cables
• New standard height seat post
• New seat post insert
• Later Brompton dual pivot brakes
• Later Brompton crank arm with pedal stop (stops the folding pedal fouling the frame)
• Later Brompton frame mounted pump
The original gloss red paintwork is original and has touch ups but is completely rust free, the rear triangle has been replaced earlier this year with a brand-new later version in its original satin black finish.
Mechanically, the bike rides exceptionally well. During the restoration It was fully serviced to include new inner and outer cables, new mudguards, new seat post and insert (fitted by a Brompton dealer), NOS later adjustable brake levers and later dual pivot calipers in silver with Shimano brake pads, these transform the bike and make it feel much more modern.
