Very rare Brompton. Steve Parry was well known for modifying Bromptons to an exceptionally high standard. This is one of his higher league creations.
I bought it from a lady who was selling her late husband's vast collection of largely unused rare and unusual bikes. He had commissioned Steve Parry to modify a totally brand new Brompton, to include, amongst other things, a brand new Rohloff speed hub. If you're unfamiliar with them, they are the Rolls Royce of internal hubs - they are considered bomb proof and have 14 sequential, evenly spaced gears. They are commonly used by round the world cyclists as they can do hundreds of thousands of miles with only occasional oil changes. They are also about £1000 to buy new.
This bike had never turned a wheel when I acquired it a few years ago. Since then I have changed the Rohloff oil (as a precaution) with the proper Rohloff flush and refill oil, greased the grease points and lubricated the pivot points, chain, bearings and suspension handlebar post (a brilliant and highly effective Parry modification). I then rode it c. 1 mile to see what it's like. It is fantastic and works perfectly. Technically, I suppose, it's therefore a used bike. But this would seem to be doing it a disservice as, although it's hardly just left Steve Parry's workshop, it might as well have done (the bike is believed to be from the 2000s decade - possibly into the 2010s - but if you are a Brompton expert, you may be able to narrow this down).
The only other thing I have done is change the original Brompton branded tyres for new Schwalbe tyres (only as the originals were starting to look a bit shiny from total lack of use).
A bit like the Kinetics Brompton Rohloff conversion, Steve Parry had to fabricate a wider rear triangle to accommodate the speedhub. This has been done to a very high, OE, standard, after which the bike was professionally sprayed in a lovely grey, and liveried with numerous 'SP' stickers.
The wheels are high quality matching Sun Rims, with virtually no wear (only from my short test ride - please see pics!).
A leather Brookes saddle is also fitted.
Brakes are side pull V brakes - much more powerful than the old cantilever brakes.
The bike comes with a Rohloff manual, spare oils and a bag/ ruck sack.
I believe the bike is 13.9kg.
There are a few very minor marks, but nothing really noteworthy.
I just do not see myself using this. I am not a commuter and I'm also reaching the age where I do not see myself doing it justice. It is, I'm sure, capable of transporting someone many, many miles. I also bet it would be an amazing talking point, particularly amongst folding bike/ Rohloff enthusiasts.
I really didn't know how to price this, as effectively a NOS (new old stock), highly unusual, almost boutique modified Brompton. I hope you feel the asking price to be fair. Maybe consider that it's around the same price that the excellent Kinetics charge to convert a Brompton to Rohloff (that's on top of the price of a Brompton you supply). It's also less than I paid a few years ago - and inflation isn't exactly being kind to us.
You may want to look up Steve Parry on the 'net. There are a few hits for him and you will see that this is a very high quality creation indeed.
