Dahon Jifo 16 Folding Bike Lightweight

The Dahon Jifo 16 is a lightweight aluminium folding bike designed for riders who need something compact and genuinely portable. With 16-inch tubular tyres and a flat handlebar, it's built for short journeys and urban commuting, collapsing down to a size that fits in a car boot, on a train, or under a desk. Dahon's patented folding system makes the pack-down straightforward, and the overall weight is kept low thanks to the aluminium frame, so carrying it up stairs or onto public transport doesn't become a chore.

The drivetrain uses a 3-speed grip shifter paired with hub gears, which keeps things simple and low-maintenance. There's no derailleur to worry about, and the hub gear system works smoothly across the three ratios, handling moderate inclines without fuss. It's not a large range, but it's enough for the kind of stop-start riding a folding bike typically does. The grip shifter is intuitive to use, even if you're wearing gloves in winter.

Day to day, the Jifo 16 handles the practicalities of urban cycling well. The small wheels make the bike responsive in traffic and contribute to the compact fold, though they do mean you'll work a bit harder to maintain speed on longer flat sections compared to a larger-wheeled bike. The flat handlebar gives an upright riding position, which is useful for visibility and general comfort on shorter rides.

This bike suits commuters who combine cycling with public transport, or anyone working in a small office or flat who needs a bike that doesn't demand much storage space. It's also a natural choice for courier work, weekend shopping trips, or anyone who values portability as much as simply getting around. Riders covering longer distances regularly or seeking a sportier ride will likely find it limiting, but for genuine folding convenience matched with practical everyday usability, the Jifo 16 delivers what it's designed to do.
