Brompton M3E 3 Speed Folding Bike

This is a 2000s Brompton M3E, a British-made folding bike built around a steel frame and fitted with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gear. It's been well maintained over the years and remains in good working order for its age. The 16-inch wheels and compact fold make it suited to city cycling and the kind of journeys where you'll need to carry the bike onto a train or bus, or store it in a small space at home or the office.

Cosmetically, the red paintwork shows its age with a few scratches and scrapes across the frame, and there are places where previous touch-ups have been made in slightly mismatched colours. Nothing jumps out at you from a distance, but up close you'll see the signs of honest use. Mechanically, everything works as it should. The caliper brakes are responsive, the gears shift smoothly through the hub mechanism, and the fold operates without any issues. The only thing to note is that this model predates Brompton's rear frame clip, so a previous owner has fitted a simple homemade solution to hold the rear frame in place when folded. It works well enough, though you'll need to manually engage it rather than having it lock automatically when you unfold the bike.

For daily urban riding and short trips that involve a mix of cycling and public transport, this Brompton does exactly what it's designed to do. It folds down in seconds and sits neatly in a bag or under your arm. The 3-speed hub keeps things straightforward—no derailleurs to adjust, just simple, reliable gearing that handles city terrain without drama.
