Brompton 6 Speed C-Line Electric 2019
This is a 2019 Brompton 6-speed C-Line electric folding bike, a British-made steel frame built for urban commuting where you need genuine portability. The compact lateral fold means it stows under a desk or into train luggage racks, which is where electric folding bikes really earn their keep—you get motor assistance without the weight penalty of lugging around a full-sized e-bike on public transport or up apartment stairs.
The drivetrain uses a hybrid setup combining a 3-speed Sturmey Archer internal hub with a 2-speed derailleur to give you six usable ratios. This is smooth and low-maintenance, and the gears shift cleanly. The 250W brushless DC front hub motor sits in the 16-inch wheel and maxes out at 15mph, which keeps you legal for UK road use whilst still making climbs and headwinds manageable. The 300Wh removable lithium-ion battery gives decent range for daily commuting and detaches easily for charging indoors or at the office.
The condition here is very good. The steel frame shows minimal wear, the gears engage cleanly through the range, brakes pull sharp and responsive, wheels run true, and the tyres have life left in them. At 18kg including battery, it's heavier than a standard Brompton but still carries reasonably if you need to lift it, though this is genuinely a bike you'll ride rather than walk with constantly. The electric assistance handles that weight well and makes hills feel almost flat.
This works best for riders doing short urban journeys with occasional hills, combining cycling with train or bus legs, or anyone who values not arriving sweaty at work. If you're covering longer distances regularly or need steeper hill-climbing capacity, the limitations become apparent. But for genuine door-to-door portability in a city, an electric folding bike removes the barriers most people have about ditching the car for the first and last mile.
