1990 Hub 89-12 Mk2 Brompton Folding bicycle - All Original & Hardly Used

This is a 1990 Brompton M5L folding bicycle in what can only be described as exceptional original condition, having spent most of its life stored rather than ridden hard. Built in late 1990 with an 89-12 hub date stamp, it's a Mk2 model from the era when Brompton was refining the design that would become iconic. The steel frame and compact fold design remain entirely original, complete with all the components that left the factory three decades ago. Only gentle leisure rides have touched this bike, so there's been no commuting wear or long-distance fatigue to age the parts prematurely.

What makes this particular folding bike worth noting is how complete it remains. The early rear triangle design, Alesa alloy ridged wheels, upgraded folding pedal, front frame-mounted luggage block, original Raleigh Record tyres, foam saddle with slider bracket, and ribbed plastic handlebar grips are all as Brompton made them. Even the large 'Patents Worldwide' sticker survives on the frame. The gloss paint finish still shines throughout, marked only by light scratches from storage and a couple of carefully touched-in scuffs where the folded pedal has caught the rear triangle. Both alloy rims remain shiny silver, and the original Raleigh Record tyres retain their centre lines with clear tread still present and properly inflated.

Mechanically, everything works as it should. The early caliper brakes operate smoothly, and the rarer dual chain-side Sturmey Archer Sprinter 5-speed hub gear shifts between all five gears without hesitation using two SA thumb shifters. The original chain and running gear show hardly any wear, remain rust-free, and run smoothly. The silver plastic mudguards are in good original condition, showing the common whitening that comes with age on both front and rear, while the bracket work displays surface corrosion that's typical for the age but could be refinished if preferred. The lightweight foam saddle remains sound with no splits or damage. The bike has been cleaned and checked over but kept as original as possible, with only age patina carefully preserved rather than stripped away.

This is a British-made steel folding bicycle that works well as a collector's piece or for anyone specifically seeking an early Mk2 model in this condition. Collection is available from Crowborough TN6, or free UK mainland boxed delivery using Parcelforce 48 can be arranged.
