{"product_id":"vintage-customised-early-1970s-raleigh-stowaway-folder","title":"Vintage Customised Early 1970s Raleigh Stowaway Folder","description":"I have built this bike up from a frame which was originally supplied as a complete Raleigh Stowaway around 1974 by Frank Heywood Cycles of Leyland. The frame, in my favourite Raleigh colour, has acquired a beautiful patina over the past 52 years or so. I have stripped, cleaned, greased and reinstalled the bottom bracket and headset bearings. The bike has then been built using new lightweight components wherever possible - wheel set, seat post, saddle, stem, bars and pedals. The tyres are Kenda Small Block Eight and cope very well with a range of riding surfaces. I have gone for single-speed with coaster brake, and doubled up with a pair of long-reach BMX caliper brakes with Avid levers. The original style cottered crank set has been retained - as a nod to the past. The result is a sturdy, simple and fun bike now ready to give another 52 years of service!
