Brompton Superlight S2L-X, 2-speed, S-type flat bars, titanium fork and rear tri

Desirable 2014 Brompton S2L-X Superlight, currently set up without mudguards. This is the classic pre-P Line Superlight configuration: S-type flat handlebars, 2-speed gearing, steel main frame, and lighter titanium fork and rear triangle.

I’ve owned and ridden this bike for years. I originally bought it for commuting around London, which I no longer need to do, and it has been a brilliant city bike: surprisingly fast, responsive, and genuinely fun to ride.

The flat bars give it a more direct feel than a typical upright Brompton, and the simple 2-speed setup really comes alive in the city. For me, that is the sweet spot for this bike. It is light, quick off the mark, easy to fold, easy to carry, and just about perfect for trains, offices, stairs and urban commutes. Hills are manageable if you ride regularly, though the 2-speed setup may be a bit challenging for less frequent cyclists.

This is not a modern T Line, but an earlier and sought-after Superlight / X model, from the period when Brompton’s premium lightweight bikes used titanium extremities with the traditional steel main frame. It gives you the classic Brompton ride and fold, while saving weight compared with the standard all-steel models.

The bike has been stored indoors and regularly serviced, and is in good used condition for its age. It shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with use, a few dinks and scratches here and there, but has clearly been looked after. The easy wheels have been upgraded to ACE Alloy Easy Wheels (Titanium Bolts). It includes a Brooks leather saddle, front carrier block, and Brompton/Ortlieb-style front luggage bag.

It was originally fitted with mudguards, but I removed them in favour of the cleaner look and waterproof trousers. Replacement mudguards should be easy enough to-refit.
