Brompton S2L Nickel Edition Folding Bike 2016

This is a 2016 Brompton S2L Nickel Edition folding bike, a British-made steel frame compact that's been kept as a reserve bike for dry days only. The nickel main frame has aged well over the past decade, showing only minor marks and scuffs to the black extremities, with heli tape applied to areas prone to cable rub. The gears and brakes work smoothly, the wheels are true, and the folding hinges have no play.

The bike has been customised beyond standard spec. A titanium seat post replaces the stock item, paired with ESI Extra Chunky grips for comfort on longer rides. Joseph Kuosac black hex nuts feature on both front and rear, with an extra firm suspension block fitted to the rear to eliminate bobbing under load. A 580mm black handlebar widens the contact points for better handling compared to the standard width, and the folding pedal has a Bromfoot platform to increase surface area, though there's a small piece of plastic missing from it.

For carrying and storage, a Brompton rear rack is fitted, useful for loads like shopping and providing a more stable footprint when the bike is folded. A front mudflap sits on the rear mudguard for extra protection in wet conditions. The Bromptification hinge clamp set includes self-aligning features but bears a few scratches from use. The saddle is a Selle Royal Seta, and a pull strap is fitted to the front block for easier deployment. Gearing runs to two rear sprockets configured at 12 and 17 tooth, offering slightly easier ratios with the larger 17-tooth option.

Tyres are mixed: a Schwalbe One 35mm folding tyre on the front, chosen for its lighter weight and faster rolling characteristics, with a Continental Contact Urban 35mm folding tyre on the rear paired with a TPU tube. The bike features 16-inch wheels, 2-speed gearing, side-pull caliper brakes, and derailleur gears.
