brompton g line bike- extremely rarely used. recently purchased for a timeframe
This Brompton G Line is a British-made steel folding bike that represents a significant step away from the classic Brompton formula. Where the standard models use 16-inch wheels and a compact, upright geometry, the G Line scales up to 20-inch wheels and a longer wheelbase designed to handle gravel, dirt, and mixed terrain alongside regular pavement riding. It still folds down to a manageable size in around 20 seconds, but the geometry and components are built for riders who want more stability and comfort without sacrificing portability.
The frame is steel with three size options available, though this particular example is marked as Small or Medium. The 20-inch wheels paired with Schwalbe G-One All-Round tyres (54mm wide) give the bike a planted feel and genuine traction on loose surfaces. The tyres are puncture-resistant and tubeless-ready, which matters if you plan to venture off tarmac regularly. Stopping power comes from TRP hydraulic disc brakes with 140mm rotors—a first for Brompton—which work reliably in wet conditions and require less hand effort than traditional calipers.
The drivetrain uses a Shimano Alfine 8-speed internal hub gear, which keeps all the mechanics protected from mud and water while giving you a decent range for both climbing and cruising. The wide, flat handlebars and grippy platform pedals (with a quick-release left pedal for folding) are designed for rough terrain control. The bike weighs from 13.9kg depending on configuration, which is noticeably heavier than a standard Brompton but still light enough to carry when folded and stow in a car boot or under a desk.
This spec shows caliper brakes and 5-speed gearing, which suggests it may be from an earlier iteration or different configuration than the current G Line range. Regardless, the orange colour and rarely-used condition mean it's in good working order. The G Line works as a genuine all-terrain folding bike for commuters who want to mix road cycling with gravel rides and rough tracks, without needing to compromise on the ability to fold and carry the bike when you reach your destination or change how you're travelling.
