For sale here is my well-enjoyed, well-travelled, yet currently unused Brompton 3-speed folding bike.
In classic black, with Sturmey-Archer hub gears.
I've recently spent a day fettling the bike and giving it a clean and lubricate so that it rides smoothly, with gears and brakes working as you would expect.
It is ready to ride away immediately, however there are conditional notes you should be aware of below.
For reference I'm 174cm tall and prefer a closer reach handlebar and this suits me perfectly.
The Good (plenty of mods!):
- 3 speed gears shift reliably and as expected.
- Rear wheel has recently been rebuilt with a brand new rim and spokes (less than 2 miles on it!) and a new tensioner chain for the hub.
- Both brakes feature easily replaceable pads that is thanks to Jagwire brake pads.
- Folding mechanism is and always has been smooth and reliable.
- Rear roller wheels have been replaced with roller skate wheels and bearings (and the other spare 2 roller skate wheels will be included)
- Non-folding pedal replaced with a sturdy b-twin one (and the matching left pedal will be included)
- Seat post is the extended version measuring approx 600cm long for maximum adjustability.
- Soft handlebar tape wrapped around the frame (easily removable) for comfortable carrying.
- Front cog has been fully replaced with a 170cm crank arm and 50t replaceable cog (110bcd), for far easier servicing.
- Bottom bracket was replaced during 2020 lockdown.
- Fairly new M Type handlebars have been fitted.
- Brass Crane bell with an excellent long loud ring tone to it!
- Ergon GP3 cork handlebar grips, cut to size for classy looks and extra comfort.
- All metal Sturmey Archer 3 speed gear shifter for extra sturdiness and stronger gear clicks!
Conditional Notes:
- She's an old girl! Around the year 2000 (frame. number 156995)
- As such, there are parts of the paintwork wearing away. I've tried to photo this as honestly as possible. In time, she would probably want a full frame respray. But she's all steel so is reliable.
- The front wheel is original, and runs and rolls well (bearings recently regreased). In time you would likely need to replace it just from the rim brakes wearing it through.
- The fenders cosmetically look rough but function just fine.
- The arms where the roller wheels attach to I think are bent. This can cause the bike to "rock" when you're wheeling it along. I'd say they want bending back into place, either gently, or via a friend with a blowtorch to heat the steel up and reset them!
I've had this fantastic bike since 2016, and it has seen me through countless commutes (some wintery, hence the blemishes!), numerous National Express trips and train journeys, trips abroad to Barcelona, Budapest and Berlin, and many other joyous jaunts.
She had a full-focused strip down during Covid (we had time then!).
She has not been ridden for the last 3 years, so she may as well go to the next loving home.
I'm very open to answering questions or providing more photos and videos.
Collection obviously preferred but I've got the ability to send via DPD or otherwise.
Many thanks for your attention and interest,
Frankie
