Brompton C Line Flame Red Lacquer low bar 6 speed

This is a Brompton C Line folding bike in Flame Red lacquer, handmade in the UK and finished to the brand's usual high standard. Built on a steel frame with the compact lateral fold Brompton is known for, it's designed to collapse into a package small enough to store in a cupboard or take on trains and buses. The bike dates from January 2022 and has seen minimal use, with everything in working order.

The six-speed setup uses Sturmey Archer hub gears, which shift smoothly and need little maintenance beyond the occasional oil. Schwalbe Marathon tyres handle everyday riding well, keeping punctures to a minimum on city streets. The saddle is a Fizik, the grips are ergonomic, and the handlebar, steerer and seat tubes come in a limited-edition black finish. It runs side-pull caliper brakes.

What strikes you about a Brompton is how capable it feels despite its size and weight. The 16-inch wheels make it nimble in traffic, and the geometry keeps the ride composed even when bouncing between bus stops and cycle lanes. If you've ridden larger bikes, you'll find it accelerates quicker than expected and corners with confidence. The fold itself becomes routine after a few attempts.
