Selling my beautiful Bike Friday New World Tourist. Probably doesn't need an introduction for anyone who is searching for one, but this is a rare thing - a folding bike that actually rides well. I bought this when I was travelling for work as it folds down to fit in a standard Samsonite type suitcase so can be checked in as normal luggage. Aside from one amazing trip over a couple of days heading over the Pyrenees from France to Spain (after taking it to southern France by train), I have hardly used this and it's been sitting unused for a few years now - time to let it go.
This model is fully adjustable with a standard stem moveable up and down the steerer tube. Seatpost at fully extended height goes taller than I can ride (at 6'2") and goes down for a very small person.
Gearing is 27 speed, with a SRAM dual-drive system - 9 speed rear cassette, with a 3 speed hub. Sheldon Brown was a great fan of these because the hub shifts even when you're stationary, so you can shift down at traffic lights.
In anticipation of selling, I have put on a brand new SRAM X9 chain and installed all new brake pads (Clarks triple compound all round) and near Shimano brake cable inner and outers, plus given it a quick once over. The tyres are almost brand new Schwalbe Marathon Plus. I also have two spare tyres I'll include (no space to add more photos) - a lightly used Schwalbe Marathon Plus and a Decathlon generic tyre (similar to Marathon's tread).
Comes with front and rear mudguards, as well as front and rear racks (both of which collapse down to small packing size). I cycled over the Pyrenees with panniers front and rear and the ride remained great despite the load. I've included some flat pedals. It will come with an old Charge Spoon saddle (not the saddle shown).
The condition is generally very good, with no dents or dings. There are two flaws: (i) the paint has worn in a few small spots, the worst of which is under the chainstay (presumably stones kicking up) which you can see in the photos as very minor surface rust, and, more annoyingly, (ii) the rubber on the grip shift of the dual drive has become soft/tacky. This didn't bother me riding it around but if I were keeping the bike, I would probably replace the grip (available on eBay). Braking is surprisingly powerful and shifting smooth.
I would much prefer inspection, test ride and collection (central London, by Barbican; Victoria Park; or possibly Bournemouth if timings work out when I'm visiting family), but will box up and ship if needed.
