Bickerton Californian Folding Bike

The Bickerton Californian is a folding bike designed for compact storage and straightforward urban riding. With 16-inch wheels and an aluminium and steel frame, it folds down small enough to fit in a car boot or campervan, making it useful for people who need a bike that doesn't take up much space when you're not riding. This particular example is in excellent condition and has hardly been used, so it's ready to go without any issues.

The bike runs a 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub gear, which means you get three ratios to work with without the complexity of derailleur maintenance. The hub gear system is reliable and simple to operate, suited to the kind of everyday riding where you need straightforward gear changes without fiddling. Stopping power comes from side-pull caliper brakes, which are lightweight and effective for a bike of this size and weight. You also get a rear carrier rack and a stand, both practical additions that add to the bike's everyday utility without adding much weight or bulk.

The 16-inch wheels keep the folded package compact and make the Californian nimble around town, though like all small-wheeled folders, you'll need to keep pedalling a bit harder on longer flat sections than you would on a larger-wheeled bike. The blue finish is clean and straightforward. If you're looking at a pair of these—two identical models are available separately—they work well together for couples or families who both need folding bikes, whether for weekend getaways or simply because you both live with storage constraints.
