Bickerton Californian Folding Bike

The Bickerton Californian is a folding bike built around simplicity and practicality. With 16-inch wheels and an aluminium and steel frame, it's designed to fold down small enough to fit in the boot of a car or take along in a campervan, making it ideal if you need a bike that doesn't demand much storage space. The lightweight construction means it's manageable to carry when folded, and the compact dimensions make it genuinely useful for combined travel and cycling trips.

Day to day, it uses a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gear, which keeps the drivetrain simple and virtually maintenance-free. The side-pull caliper brakes are straightforward and responsive, while the rear carrier rack gives you somewhere to sling a small bag or secure whatever you're carrying. The bike also comes with a stand, so you're not hunting around for something to lean it against when you stop. These touches show it's been thought through for actual use rather than just folding and unfolding in a showroom.

The 16-inch wheels make the Californian nimble and easy to manoeuvre, particularly useful if you're navigating tight spaces or loading and unloading from a vehicle regularly. The riding position is upright and comfortable for shorter journeys, which is what this bike does best. This particular example is in excellent condition and has barely been used, so it's ready to go straight out. Two identical bikes are listed separately, so if you're looking for a matching pair for two people, that's worth considering. Collection is from Hampshire, near Hook.
