1992 Mk2 Brompton Folding bicycle - Timewarp Collectors Condition Hardly Used
This is a 1992 Mk2 Brompton folding bicycle in remarkably original condition, having seen only occasional fair-weather leisure rides since it left the factory. The steel frame is built as either an L3 or M3L model, identifiable from the hub date stamp, and represents one of the better examples of early Mk2 Bromptons still in circulation. Finding a rust-free example from this era with all its original components intact is genuinely rare.
The bike retains its original early rear triangle design, Alesa alloy ridged wheels, and Raleigh Record tyres which still show their centre lines and retain tread depth. The gloss black paint finish remains excellent throughout, marked only by light scratches from storage and a couple of carefully done touch-ins where the folding pedal has made contact with the rear triangle upright. The original silver plastic mudguards are in excellent condition with no chips or splits and minimal discolouration. The plastic handlebar grips, front frame-mounted luggage block, Ping bell, and original sticker are all present and unmodified. Both the original chain and running gear are rust-free, hardly worn, and in smooth working order.
Mechanically, everything is fully functional. The Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gear shifts smoothly between all three gears using the original SA thumb shifter, and the side-pull caliper brakes work cleanly and responsively. The upgraded folding pedal operates smoothly. The only non-original part is a more comfortable Iscaselle soft padded saddle, fitted after the original foam separated from its plastic frame from being lifted by the saddle when folded. The bike has been carefully cleaned, adjusted, and checked over, ready for use.
At 16 inches, the wheels contribute to a compact fold and nimble handling, whilst the steel frame and original components make this a worthwhile addition to any Brompton collection or for someone seeking a genuine early Mk2 example. Collection from Crowborough, East Sussex, or UK mainland delivery by Parcelforce 48 is available.
