This 1988 early mk2 (88-4 hub date stamp) built Brompton M3E folding bicycle remains in what can only be described as amazing, original lighyly leisure used condition still fitted with it’s original Raleigh Record tyres which are hardly worn and left on the bike as indicate the low mileage covered.

If intending on riding this charming piece of Brompton history on the road then it will require a new set of tyres.

This example would make a great addition to any Brompton collection or anyone looking for one of the better surviving mk2 models.

Rare to find a rust free earlier mk2 still looking bright and having it’s original parts including:

Original early rear triangle design.

Original foam Selle Royal saddle fitted to chrome extender bracket.

Original Rigida Chromed Steel wheels.

Original early brake levers with original brake cables and brake blocks.

Original upgraded folding pedal.

Original front frame mounted Luggage Block.

Original Raleigh Record tyres.

Original (faded in parts) Large ‘Patents Worldwide’ frame decal.

Pedals & Larger Front/Rear Reflectors.

The original Gloss paint finish still looks respectable throughout and with the light scratches/marks from storage. Only some carefully paint touch in’s from where folded pedal has clashed with the black rear triangle upright and crossbar. Touch in’s to the upper lip of the seatpost tube of frame where seat has dropped when folding but hardly visible now!.

Both chrome wheel rims remain shiny under a film of oil/grease for protection against rust and with the original Raleigh Record tyres which both still hold air fine.

The bike is all in fully functional and excellent working order, having smooth working early Caliper brakes and the Sturmey Archer hub gear mechanism shifting smoothly between all 3 gears using the tried and tested SA thumb type shifter. The gear cable has been replaced inner and outer due to being too stiff to operated the gears.

The bike has been carefully cleaned/polished/adjusted/checked over and even still has it’s original chain / running gear which is all hardly worn, rust free and in excellent smooth running order ready for use.

The original silver plastic mudguards have been removed due to rear being in bits. The front one is in good original condition will be supplied in case you can find a matching rear!.

I personally prefer to keep the bike as original as possible with the age related patina only cleaned/polished.
